MASTER’S THESIS

A master’s thesis is an independent scientific research that has analytical and/or practical significance. It reflects the master’s student’s ability to practically apply acquired knowledge in a given professional field, conduct independent research, pose scientific problems and find their solutions.

The master’s thesis is a separate and final component of the master’s program.

By the end of the 1st (2nd in the case of part-time education) semester of the 1st year, all graduate students must have approved thesis topics and supervisors.

The pre-defense of the master’s thesis is carried out by a specialized unit (interdepartmental commission) with the participation of the heads of the unit and the master’s program, as well as the master’s student’s supervisor.

If plagiarism is detected during the preliminary defense of the dissertation, the work is not allowed to be publicly defended.

It should be noted that plagiarism is considered to be the use of other sources without reference or the use of any material (text) in a significant amount.

The master’s thesis is assessed on a 20-point system according to established criteria and corresponding standards. The dissertation is assessed only by those members of the final certification committee who were present throughout the entire process of defending the given master’s degree student. The evaluation results of the final certification commission are published immediately after summing up the results in the presence of graduates.

After the publication of the certification results, the chairman of the commission asks the masters about the presence of complaints. Immediately after the publication of the assessment results, the undergraduate submits an application to the chairman of the commission if there is a complaint against them.

An appeal is considered if there are violations of the procedural provisions of the Order “On the general certification of graduates of institutions implementing higher professional education programs in the Republic of Armenia.”

After receiving the application, the chairman of the commission presents to the graduate the results of the assessments of the commission members, according to the criteria and standards defined in this order.

If errors are detected when performing procedures, calculating and summing up assessment points during the assessment process, the commission:

a) changes the assessment if a detected violation or error affects the result of the assessment,

b) does not change the assessment if the error or omission did not affect the result of the assessment,

c) cancels the results of the defense if there are serious procedural violations of order and immediately organizes a new defense.
