The earthquake left an indelible mark on Armenia and demonstrated the resilience, solidarity, and compassion of people in the face of extreme adversity, highlighting the importance of community support, the protection of human rights, and psychological assistance.

December 7 commemorates the devastating 1988 Spitak earthquake, which claimed more than 25,000 lives, left thousands injured or homeless, and destroyed entire communities.

Let us also recall that the university’s rector, Doctor of Psychology and Professor S. Sedrakyan, recognizing the urgent need to strengthen the fields of applied psychology and social work with qualified specialists, founded the “URARTU” University of Applied Psychology and Sociology in 1991.

The memory of the Spitak earthquake serves as a reminder that solidarity, compassion, and human support can save lives and help rebuild society.
